There are tons of WEN by Chaz Dean reviews available, but I have used the product myself and would like to add my two cents to the feedback. The featured product is the cleansing conditioner. It’s the product that started the revolution really – a non-foaming conditioner that also cleanses your hair.

I tried it through the direct subscription, and actually really liked the lavender version designed for thin hair types. I love almost anything lavender-scented, so this was, of course, the one I would try. I was surprised that it did not weigh down my fine hair nor did it make my hair greasier than normal. As other reviewers have stated, I did seem to shed more in the shower, but I shed less the rest of the day so perhaps massaging thoroughly just removes the ones that were going to shed anyway.

The reason that I discontinued my Wen subscription was the cost, around $30 per month. In theory, since it replaces your shampoo, conditioner, deep conditioner, detangler, and leave-in conditioner, it’s supposed to be cheaper. But I never used that many products in my life so I was not saving money! Not to mention the fact that they recommend using 24-32 pumps for long hair which is an outrageous amount of product!

I’m still working through my remaining bottles but I use it differently. I shampoo with a traditional foaming formula and then use one pump of the Wen Lavender as a leave-in conditioner. It has greatly extended the number of uses that I get from a bottle and thus extends the cost.

When I finally run out, I do not expect to purchase more but if I don’t find a suitable alternative (i.e., a natural product that still works), I may switch back.

IT Cosmetics (also available on QVC and Ulta) has branded itself as a problem-solving makeup and skincare line. The products are developed by Jamie Kern Lima who works with plastic surgeons to create innovative and proven products with anti-aging technologies and high-performance results. Some of their most loved products include:

• Bye Bye Under Eye Anti-Aging Concealer – This is billed as a treatment concealer with the ability to treat fine lines, dark circles, redness and age spots. I have had the opportunity to try this product but the sample I was given was not the right shade. I very much liked the smooth texture but Medium was too dark for me.
• Brow Power Universal Eyebrow Pencil – As a fair-skinned blonde, I was extremely doubtful regarding the “universal” nature of this pencil. But I was stunned when a light touch actually did blend in with my ash-blonde eyebrows! It also contains a proprietary combination of brow-conditioning ingredients such as Vitamin E and Panthenol. I really don’t color my eyebrows daily but if I need to, this is the one I reach for.
• Vitality Lip Flush 4-in-1 Reviver Lipstick Stain – Loved this in Je Ne Sais Quoi! It really did feel like a nourishing lip balm but provide a nice natural pink stain. I was amazed at the texture, and that a stain could actually moisturize my lips.

Overall I have actually been pretty impressed with the items that I have been able to try. Next time I spot a fabulous gift-with-purchase, I plan to try the Bye Bye Makeup 3-in-1 Makeup Melting Balm, the CC+ Lip Serum in Laugh, maybe the Vitality Flush Stain Stick Lip & Cheek Reviver in Je Ne Sais Quoi and perhaps the Celebration Foundation if I can see the colors in person first.

I’ve found my new holy grail in the form of skin care products and it’s called Lavelier. Don’t tell anyone or tell everyone … either way my skin looks fabulous and I want you to know all about it. I love wearing makeup and wear a lot of it, so I know that I have to be extra careful protecting my skin from drying out, blemishes and any kind of aging. It feels like I’ve tried every skin care product out there, so trust me- I know my skin care products.

The Biology Mousse Cleanser is a totally new product for me as I’ve never used a foaming cleanser like this. The formula is really good at picking up all of the makeup left on my face from the day. After I rinse with cool water, my skin feels very clean and fresh, like I wasn’t wearing 10 lbs. of makeup mere minutes before.

When I wash my face at night, I’ve started using Lavelier Nourishing Night Serum + Vitamin C on my face and neck. After I use the serum, my face looks well-rested by the time I hit the bed to actually get the rest my body needs! I love that the serum is made with Vitamin C, coral seaweed and marine botanicals. It’s important to know what you’re actually putting on your skin and I love that the ingredients are simple to read and simple to understand.

I also love the Lavelier Marine Deep Moisturizer and it has quickly become my go-to moisturizer for so many reasons. First, the moisturizer smells so good that I’m happy just opening the jar for the scent. Second, it’s the most soothing cream I’ve put on my face. I love how quickly it absorbs into my skin and doesn’t feel greasy or heavy at all. I use the moisturizer it in the morning before I put on my makeup and at night before I go to bed.

So tell your friends, tell your wife … I’m a Lavelier fan for life

Ever wondered what the future of beauty looks like? Well, after using Jelessi’s Photonix-1 Facial Rejuvenation tool, I say the future is now. Being a beauty blogger, I feel like I’ve seen it all. There’s all kinds of gadgets and gizmos out there. But even still, I can’t help but stare in wonder as I gaze upon this flashy LED device. Let me tell you a little bit about what the product actually does.

Using a combination of galvanic current, LED light therapy, ultrasonic therapy and massage, the Jelessi Photonix-1 Facial Rejvenation tool targets and repairs the signs of aging to give a smoother, more youthful appearance. With so many functions, Jelessi does note that the device is not well suited for those with especially sensitive skin. Just to be safe, I tested the device on a small area on the inside of my thigh and wait 48 hours. I didn’t have any redness or any other kind of reaction so I decided to go forward with a trial on my face.
The manual for the device comes with several treatment suggestions. I found this especially helpful because the device has so many functions. Combining several functions at a time yields different results depending on your goals or desired appearance.

I started noticing a few breakouts on my forehead recently so I figured this was the perfect opportunity to try the Acne Treatment. After washing my face with a good acne cleanser, I powered on the device and switched on the Ultrasonic Positive Ion+ function. To get a good sense of the power, I turned the intensity to the middle range. Then, I turned on the blue LED and massaged over my forehead in small circles.

For about 2 weeks, I used the Facial Rejuvenation tool each day for about 15 minutes. In about half that time, my skin was almost completely clear already! In addition to being thrilled with the results, I love how soothing the ultrasonic mode feels on my skin. I felt like I was getting a little extra pampering in every single day!
In addition to being a superior tool for acne, this product can also be used for wrinkles and fine lines as well! I’m still in my twenties and blessed with very youthful looking skin for now, but I think my mom might like to try it out. Of course, this tool could be used as a means of aging prevention as well!

Their premier featured ingredient is resveratrol, a polyphenol produced in vegetation when it is under duress. This compound is primarily found in red grapes as well as red wine, and is known for its antioxidant properties both for overall health and in skin care uses. Not only does it act as an antioxidant, but it also has anti-inflammatory properties as well.

Their website also features an active blog series, divided into “Look Well”, “Live Well’, and “Eat Well”, as part of their holistic approach to self-care. It includes great articles about skin care, healthy lifestyle tips, and even nutritional advice.

My Experience

• First of all, the scent was amazing as soon as I opened the jar. It is fresh and herbal and a little fruity, with a slight hint of vanilla. I know that fragrance does not matter as much when you are going to rinse the product off, however I still like a nicely scented product when I am using it.  It did have an overall botanical fragrance instead of that artificial smell which a lot of “botanical” products have.
• The texture is quite pleasant as well, almost like a lightweight grainy lotion. I will admit that I am rather picky when it comes to my body scrubs. I prefer them to be dense when it comes to the ratio of exfoliation particles but non-greasy so that they rinse cleanly and easily. I am not normally a fan of the salt plus oil varieties since they usually do not scrub very well and tend to leave a film. This one had the perfect blend of carrier product with exfoliation particles.
• The exfoliation was almost spot on for my preferences. I was able to use it everywhere from the neck down (some can be too harsh for the décolleté area) and did not leave my skin red or irritated at all, just smooth and soft. I used it before shaving my legs, and was able to get an amazingly close shave.  It was effective enough for my elbows and knees, but gentle enough to use all over.
• My general opinion is that this product is pretty great!  The light fragrance was pleasant, the texture was creamy yet exfoliating, and the level exfoliation was gentle but effective.  I also think that price was pretty reasonable – the jar is almost 9 ounces and is only $25 on their website.

Resveralife Botanical Body Butter

The Product Description

This rich body butter represents the ultimate in hydrating luxury and feels like pure silk on the skin. Shea butter, marigold flower extract and sunflower seed oil help moisturize and hydrate the skin, while organic chamomile and aloe vera help to soothe.

Massage onto cleansed skin using circular motions.

My Experience

• The scent is divine actually! It is pretty much exactly how I would want a botanical body butter to smell, light and a little fruity with a subtle hint of vanilla. It pairs beautifully with their body scrub, but the scent lingers a little more. I did not find it overwhelming throughout the day; sometimes heavily fragranced products can become cloying or sickening after smelling them all day long.  I do not think the subtle scent would interfere with most perfumes, if you wear them.
• The texture seems to be slightly whipped and light, and it absorbed into my skin very quickly. I tend to moisturize my whole body daily and this product did not delay my getting dressed as some sticky creams can.  It was much lighter than most products named ‘butter’ but that did not affect how my skin felt.
• The moisturization was amazing.  Even from just using it a few times, I can tell that this would keep away that tight and uncomfortable feeling, like my skin is a few sizes too small.  On the first day I used this, I could not stop touching my arms – they were so soft and smooth and comfortable which does not always happen for my poor skin.
• My general opinion about this body butter is that it’s fantastic! One quick side note, the first day I tried it, the weather outside was very humid so my skin was a little sticky but that didn’t last long. I used this in combination with their Botanical Body Exfoliant and would highly recommend the pair together! The price of the butter is pretty reasonable, the jar is a generous 8.82 ounces and only $25. And a little goes a long way!

I was able to test both of these products together, and they made a wonderful pair! Suffice it to say, my skin was baby soft all day long after using this delicious pair! Based on my experience with this brand so far, I am pretty impressed. In addition to the body products, they do have a few facial products. I can only imagine how my face would feel based on the way my legs feel!

Body Care Tips

I would also like to add a few quick notes about the importance of taking care of your skin from the neck down. It can be a neglected part of the routine, and doesn’t need to be. Here are ten golden rules of taking care of your body’s skin:

1. Gentle is the name of the game. Using a gentle soap or body wash so that you don’t strip your skin of the natural oils. If your soap is too harsh, you can strip your skin and leave it more dehydrated than before.
2. Likewise, a warm shower is better than a hot bath. Soaking in very hot water can strip your skin and leave it even more dehydrated. And staying in the water too long can also damage your skin, so only stay in as long as you need to.
3. Exfoliation is the process of removing the dry and dead skin cells that can build up on our skin. Not only does it help even out the skin tone, but it also increases blood circulation, boost your skin’s glow, and preparing the skin for your moisturizer. Try exfoliating just before you shave. When you remove the flaky dry skin cells, you will be amazed at how close your shave will be!
4. After rinsing away all traces of your exfoliant and soap, dry your skin gently. Don’t rub your skin vigorously to dry off but instead, gently pat the moisture off your skin. You want to leave it slightly damp for when you apply your moisturizer. If you have extra dry skin, you may want to consider moisturizing twice a day so that you don’t get tight and flaky.
5. Make sure to moisturize every day. It helps keep those fresh new skin cells soft, smooth, and hydrated.  Moisturizers also help protect the skin from environmental hazards such as wind, sun, and free radicals.
6. It’s best to use these two in conjunction with each other, using the body scrub in the shower and then applying the moisturizer onto damp skin to maximize absorption. It really helps lock the moisture into the skin.
7. Bundle up when the weather turns cold.  The cold and the wind can really sap the skin, making it tight and uncomfortable and sensitive.  Winter conditions are hard enough without putting your skin at more risk.
8. Make sure to wear your sun protection.  If you’re taking the time to exfoliate and moisturize, you have to make sure to safeguard that beautiful skin.  This is important even in the winter since the sun can cause damage any time.  SPF is essential for any part of you that has skin – that means everywhere!
9. There are two specific areas that sometimes give away our age more quickly than our face. With a little Tender Loving Care, they don’t necessarily have to! Do not treat your décolleté any harsher than you would treat your face. That skin is more delicate than you might realize, and requires a gentle touch. Likewise, caring for your hands is important. Using an exfoliating cream at night and an SPF hand cream during the day will help insure they stay soft and smooth.
10. Your knees and elbows and heels are a different story. Most of the time these areas are drier and flakier, and can really take a heavier hand on the exfoliation.  They also need a heavier moisturizer to penetrate through that thick skin, think balm instead of lotion.

I am replacing every profile picture I have ever posted. Dating websites, Facebook accounts, instagram accounts, career websites; all of them.

Why?

Because I got the Herstyler 360 Spinstyler One Click Curl, and my hair looks phenomenal.

Let me explain. I’ve never been very good with a curling iron; I just don’t have the patience. I felt like a kid watching a magic trick. I wanted to clap and yell, “Do it again!” and I did, again and again, until my whole head was lying in perfectly shaped, neat, frizz-free curls.

That’s not even the best part. The best part is, the Herstyler has a right and left switch, so you can get curls that go in either direction, and it does your whole head in a matter of minutes, which I’m not sure is a good thing or a bad thing, because the Herstyler is so much fun to use, you almost don’t want to put it down.

No one who knows me would ever believe I could get my hair looking so good. That’s why I’m posting pictures, and sending them to every ex-boyfriend, every high school acquaintance, and every teacher who said I would never amount to anything. Wait ‘til they see me now! I don’t know if looking good is the best revenge, but it surely must be in the top ten.

The tagline for Philosophy (also available on QVC) is “makeup optional skin” and I love this concept! They are not telling you to wear a ton of makeup and they are not telling you to wear none at all. They are boosting your skin’s health and appearance so that makeup becomes optional as fun instead of covering blemishes and signs of aging. What a wonderful idea to promote! I have not tried any of their more advanced anti-aging products, however, the basics are quite good.

• Their inaugural product is actually one of my favorite cleansers ever, Purity Made Simple, is terrific because the lightweight milky formula easily cleanses and removes makeup in one gentle step.
• The Microdelivery Exfoliating Wash is a surprisingly effective yet gentle daily scrub. My skin cannot tolerate any scrub on a daily basis, so when I have this in my shower, I use it about every other day.
• The Microdelivery Peel, on the other hand, is a much more in-depth resurfacing treatment. This one is definitely not for daily use, but on a bi-weekly basis, it does leave my skin super-soft and smooth, and ready to absorb all of my treatment products.
• Last but not least, I love the original Hope in a Jar. It is a lightweight creamy lotion that absorbs immediately into the skin.
• Not directly skincare related, but I absolutely love the Amazing Grace and Pure Grace fragrance collections. I am not skilled at describing scents, however, I do notice that when I wear either of these I get “unique compliments”. People tell me that I smell good, not that they like my perfume.
• I wanted to try the Hope in a Jar A to Z Cream, their version of a BB cream, but it appears to have been discontinued.

L’Occitane is a Provence-based brand that’s available through their website and stores as well as other retailers like Sephora and Nordstrom. In addition to being known for their skincare and body care products, they also pride themselves on sustaining the communities which provide these ingredients. One of the best ways to explore the L’Occitane brand is by collection.

• The Almond includes a beautiful shower oil as well as hand and body creams. It is one of the more popular scents.
• Their Verbena set is also very popular, probably due to the citrusy fresh fragrance. The shampoo and conditioner are surprisingly universal for almost all hair types.
• I am a huge fan of almost anything Lavender including theirs. Anything you pick from this line has that unmistakable fragrance of a fresh lavender field in the middle of the Provence countryside.
• I’m not too familiar with their Immortelle anti-aging skincare line, but based on the body products I have used, it would be deeply nourishing and luxurious to use.
• Their defining collections are the Shea Butter products. If you have heard of this brand, you probably heard of it through the shea butter. The shea butter soaps are wonderful as a hand soap. Two of my favorite products from the entire brand are the Shea Butter Ultra Rich Shower Cream (a delicious moisturizing shower wash) and the Pure Shea Butter which has more uses than I have discovered. I love carrying a little tin of this everywhere because you can use it everywhere. I mostly use it as a cuticle cream and a lip balm, but the only limit to the use of this little gift is your imagination.

They almost always have lovely discovery sets and free gifts when you are ready to experience this brand for yourself.

No doubt we have all heard of the Bare Minerals powder foundations, available in Original, Matte, and the pressed Ready compact. The loose mineral powders are what started it all. On Sephora alone, there are nearly 19,000 reviews of the product with a total ranking of 4.6 out of 5 stars. Given the number of foundation products available on Sephora, that is pretty dang impressive!

But did you know that BareMinerals also offers other formulas as well? The Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream is similar to a tinted moisturizer while the BareSkin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation is closer to a traditional liquid foundation. Both of them include sun protection as well.

I have had a chance to try almost all of these different formulas, and most definitely have a preference. While thousands of people swear by the loose powders, I find them to be messy and do not provide consistent or even coverage for my skin. In addition, it is distinctly possible that my skin had a negative reaction to the powder however I am not willing to test the theory. I do like the liquid versions though. The Gel Cream was a little too greasy for my preference, but the Serum Foundation gives lovely coverage with a smooth finish.

They have also recently launched a new skincare line, but I have yet to try it.

Overall they are a fun brand with many options to choose from, from their almost 20 shades of loose powder foundation to the brightly colored Pop of Passion Lip Oil-Balm. They also have terrific starter kits if you are interested in checking out the brand.

While I do enjoy the liquid formulas that I try, I do not find this to be a brand that I return to frequently.

I first discovered the Glory Boon brand through Etsy (the Glory Boon shop) and am quickly becoming a big fan! I have been trying to slowly eliminate chemicals from my diet as well as my personal products and Etsy has been a huge part of that for the personal product aspect. One thing I love about shopping on Etsy is that if you have a question and you contact the seller, chances are very high that you’ll receive your answer straight from the person that makes the products!

Glory Boon is a cruelty-free, small-batch company that prides themselves in producing natural skin care and cosmetics that are as good for you as they are beautiful.

The skincare collection includes cleansers, toners, scrubs, a cream, lip balms, and lip scrubs. They also have a set of fragrance oils, but I have not tried those yet.

The cosmetics are a far more extensive product selection. From foundation and concealer to eye and lip and cheek colors, you can create nearly an entire face from the brand! The Heal & Conceal cover-up stick is listed as a self-adjusting concealer and I find that it does blend decently well into my fair skin. The Dusty Rose Lip Gloss is the most amazing nude pink color. They do call it a stain, but I have not seen any staining properties on my lips. They recently released a Liquid Lipstick and I cannot wait to try the Bella color in this product! They even have highlight and contour sticks but that really is not my cup of tea. The cream blushes look beautiful but a little bright for my preferences.

Overall, I would highly recommend you take a look at this beautiful brand and take care of your beautiful skin with beautiful products!

There is a growing trend for more natural and organic products, both in the food industry as well as the beauty industry. In fact, it is one of the fastest growing arenas in the personal care business. An increasing awareness of ingredients and potential side effects of artificial ingredients has led more and more people to seek out natural ways to care for themselves. 

It only makes sense – if we want fewer additives in our food, why wouldn’t we seek out the same in our skincare? After all, the point of skincare is to have it absorbed in order to make it work. If you wouldn’t eat an ingredient, why would you put it on your skin? And vice versa – if you wouldn’t use it on your skin, why would you consume it?

I believe the trend stems from an interest in moving away from all of the additives that can be found in anything and everything, and a desire to move towards what nature has already provided for us. In a lot of situations, it can be particularly good for sensitive skin if you choose the right products. Many of our perceived sensitivities are not actually sensitive skin, but simply a sensitivity to some chemical additive or fragrance within the product. My skin tends to stay calmer (and less ‘reactive’) with fewer artificial ingredients in my skincare regimen.

I recently had the opportunity to try two such products – two different moisturizers from a new brand called Nubi Skin.

I was pleasantly surprised by this daytime moisturizer. Since it did not have any SPF, I actually used it at night for several nights in a row. I made sure to use a cleanser that my skin already likes so that I could best evaluate the effects of my new cream. The day cream has a light whipped texture that easily absorbs into the skin, leaving a nourished complexion but not at all greasy. I think one of the best words to describe my skin after applying was conditioned. It was soft and smooth, and there was no unpleasant residue like with heavier creams that can tend to sit on top of the skin. I also like the fact that while it has wonderful moisturizing ingredients, it has no “active” ingredients that would interfere with my treatment serums such as Vitamin C or a retinol product. I try not to use too many treatment ingredients at once, and prefer my moisturizers to be just that, moisturizing only. This really fits the bill and I have enjoyed adding it to my skincare regimen.

This one packed a punch! I used this for several nights in a row following the same cleanser that I used to try the day cream. The night cream was amazingly nourishing. Thicker than the day cream, it did take a bit longer to absorb but once it did my skin felt velvety smooth and surprisingly little greasiness. I have to admit, even for my combination to dry skin, it was bordering on too heavy this time of year in the humidity of Dallas, Texas. I would love to have it available during the worst of the winter weather, or on my frequent travels to the dry climate of Denver, Colorado. Every few weeks I give myself a home facial, complete with a peeling product. I think the night cream would be terrific as part of that regimen as well, to help nourish and calm and soothe my freshly revealed skin after a more aggressive exfoliation. Despite the heavier texture, I really had no noticeable breakouts. I suspect that is because despite the thick texture of the cream, it is made of mostly natural ingredients.

Overall Brand Review

Originally a hair care line, Nubi has recently released these wonderful facial moisturizers. Based on my experience with these products, I am interested to see what other treats the brand has in mind. I am always happy to support a smaller, independent, new brand.

Not to mention that as I get older, I find myself drifting more and more towards natural and/or organic products. But not to the exclusion of results. The two Nubi moisturizers were a wonderful pair; one more lightweight than the other but both certainly good for my skin depending on the weather or season or current skincare needs.

I also find myself trending towards a more simplified skincare routine, and this freshly launched brand appears to be streamlined like that. While I am fascinated by the 14-step Korean skincare routines, I really do not want to spend that kind of time and money. Simple products with natural ingredients that deliver results – that seems like an excellent use of my time and money. And Nubi Skin seems to be right in line with those goals!

Quick Do’s and Don’ts in Choosing Skincare

• DO know your basic skin type – dry, oily, combination, or sensitive.  It is one of the biggest factor in selecting products. And don’t forget that your skin type can fluctuate based on season, weather, or hormonal changes.
• DO give it a fair shot and stick with a regular routine. Nothing works overnight, no matter what the claims may be. If you don’t see change or improvement right away, just stick with it. Especially with anti-aging ingredients that take time to work. Of course, if you have a negative reaction, discontinue use immediately.
• DON’T overdo it. Start slowly and integrate products carefully so that you can see how each one works with your skin, as well as how they work with your existing regimen. If you throw too much at your skin at one time, it can get overwhelmed and you may not like how your skin expresses that feeling.
• DON’T assume that more expensive means better. Sometimes there are great finds right in your local drugstore. But on the flip side, don’t assume that more expensive is not worthwhile. Sometimes those pricey creams really do deliver something special; they can better afford certain ingredients that come with a higher price tag.

Bonus Tips on Trying New Skincare Products

It’s always fun to try new things – a moisturizer featured in a magazine or a facial cleanser that a movie star has recently said is the secret to her beautiful complexion. Or perhaps your skin is changing because of different factors such as the passage of time, a new environment, or a life change like pregnancy. No matter what the reason, when you are introducing new skincare products into your regimen, it is important to do it carefully and thoughtfully. Here are a few easy tips for trying out a new product:

1. Only one at a time. The number one rule about trying something new is to only try one new product at a time. That way you will be able to discern how well it is working and whether you had a reaction of some kind. If you try five new products at once, it would be hard to tell which one your skin liked or didn’t like. Especially when it comes to the “didn’t like”, you could end up back at square one and still searching for a skincare routine.
2. Do your research. Even if a product says it is for dry skin, make sure you read about the product before you put it on your skin. Just because the manufacturer determined the product was for a specific skin type like dry skin, it may not be the same “dry skin” that you experience. Read reviews, feel the product in the store if possible, and read more reviews. I always like to see how many people have left a review weighed against the composite rating. For example, I trust 500 reviews that yield 4.5 stars over one review that has 5 stars. Likewise, try a sample if you can, before you commit to the cost of the whole bottle.
3. Patch test, please. Just in case, I would recommend trying a small amount of the product in an area like the inner wrist before massaging it all over your face. If you’re going to have a negative reaction to a product, then it’s better to have that reaction on a small section of your arm than your entire face. Even if it is a cleanser, try it first before committing to the whole thing. This is another place that a sample would come in handy. 
4. Choose wisely. Make sure that whatever product you integrate into your routine works with the other products that you already use. For example, if you already use a Vitamin C serum, it would not be a good idea to integrate a retinol moisturizer. If you are trying a product that doesn’t have a high-potency ingredient like these, you don’t have to be quite as careful.
5. Give it time. Unless you have a strong negative reaction, make sure to give the new product a fair chance for results. This is especially true for products like anti-aging serums or anti-acne products. Normally treatments like those take a little while for results to start showing. The general recommendation is about two weeks to start seeing results for most active products.
6. Follow the directions. I know that may seem silly, but the product directions were carefully crafted to provide the optimal results for the product. If the retinol serum says use only at night, there is a good reason (it can increase sun sensitivity). If the moisturizer says to use it twice a day, it is also for a good reason. And if that new facial scrub says to use it twice a week, please do not use it every day!
7. Time your trials smartly. If you have a big event coming up, that is not the time to try anything new. An anti-acne treatment could stimulate purging of impurities and toxins; an anti-aging serum could cause peeling as it evens out your skin tone and texture. So it is best not to try anything new within four weeks of any significant event.

So whether you want to try nature-made products or laboratory-made products, make sure to take care of your skin properly. Either choice in personal care products is valid for your skincare needs and goals. And oftentimes, a mixture of products can provide better results, depending on your current skincare goals. I am not 100% sold on the fact that you need to use everything from one brand and nothing but that brand. Sometimes that just does not meet your skincare goals. The best strategy is just to pick individual skincare products that work for you, keeping in mind the “rules” above such as which ingredients not to mix.

But a word of advice from the other side of 40 – prevention is so much easier than correction. That is one of the rules that you really don’t believe until it’s too late, but it is true nonetheless. Wear your sunscreen every day. Wash your face every night. And it’s never too early to start using an eye cream.

Now I do not know what portion of those numbers includes taking care of the skin below the neck (aka body care products), but I highly suspect it is less than half. From my personal experience, I know I spend a lot more time and money researching and buying products for my face than anything below the neck. It is one area that we tend to let slide, buying whatever body lotion is on sale or skipping application on multiple days. It is a habit I would like to break so that I can start taking care of all of me.

And I am pretty sure I am not unique in that aspect. Open any women’s magazine and you will probably find something like 4 facial care ads for every 1 body care ad. I have not actually counted but I am pretty sure about that observation. That little tidbit about the shopping habits of American women is probably why turtlenecks will always be in style, to cover up the lack of care that we give the skin on our bodies. Consider the fact that our hands and décolleté receive the same sun and environmental damage as our face and it’s no wonder they age faster than the rest of us!

Product Review: Oh my goodness, it was lovely! I am really not a fan of the scrubs that are salt or sugar particles suspended in oil. To me they leave my skin too oily and I have a hard time getting my body wash to lather afterwards. Likewise, the particles are usually too big for me to feel like they are truly effective. This one was fabulous! There was no oily residue and my skin felt soft and smooth. The grains were large enough to be felt but small enough to be effective. Let me just say, I am very picky about my body scrubs. I have been known to throw out products after one use because of the way they make my skin feel or even just the scent. Oh and the scent! It was fresh and green and soft, but left no real lingering smell. I was fine with that, since it did not interfere with my perfume.

Product Review: Most body butters can be so thick they are nearly impossible to apply and massage in.  This one was completely the opposite. It sunk right into my skin and left it soft all day long. It was especially lovely after shaving; I could hardly believe how soft my skin was. Used in combination with the body scrub prior to shaving and the butter after I got out of the shower, just unbelievable! The scent was the same as the body scrub which is a nice layering technique, but it still was not overwhelming after it absorbed. I even used the pair as a quick manicure before heading out for the evening – exfoliating my hands and then lathering on the butter. Overall I was very impressed with the results, and the price point is extremely reasonable for the huge jar.

Overall Brand Review

Vivo Per Lei has quite an extensive line including both facial and body care. The Vivo Laboratories collection includes collagen products, retinol treatments, Vitamin C treatments, and specialty products such as the 60-second makeover and several facial masks. The Vivo Botanical collection offers several facial masks, body scrubs and body butters. The Vivo Dead Sea collection includes a number of body care and facial care treats.

It’s a large collection that seems to have something for everyone – cleansers, serums and treatments, masks and exfoliators, and specialty products. Some of the facial care products that look particularly unique and effective are the Retinol Wrinkle Solution Thermal Mask and the Botanical Matcha Refining Facial Peel but do keep in mind I have a particular fondness for masks and scrubs. I think I just like the ‘instant’ results of these types of products. Don’t get me wrong, there are obviously advantages to the longer-term results of serums and treatments. But the right scrub instantly makes your skin softer, and more able to absorb whatever treatments you are putting on.

Bonus Tips: Why You Should Exfoliate Your Body

You have heard over and over that you need to exfoliate your face for numerous beneficial reasons, and they are all correct. But the big secret is – most of those reasons also hold true for everything below your neck! Here are just a few of the top reasons your body care routine should also include an exfoliator:

1. Softness advantages! Your body has skin. I know, I know, I am not trying to be funny. But your body is covered in skin just like your face, and dead skin cells can accumulate there as well, especially on tougher areas like your knees and elbows. And when all of those dead skin cells build up, it can cause flakiness, crepiness, clogged pores, and breakouts. Not all of these can be solved with exfoliating alone but it can go a long way to help.

Bonus Tips: How to Apply Self-Tanner

It’s hard to believe but it really is that time of year. Time for swimsuits and tanned skin. But we all know that we really really should not expose our skin to the harmful UVA and UVB rays from the sun or from a tanning bed. Especially after we have so lovingly exfoliated our skin so nice and smooth. But that does not mean that we have to be pale through the summer season. That’s where self-tanner comes in! The products have come a long way since the orange phase of the 80s. The gradual ones are amazing, like you really did just get some natural color in that sunshine that we have to avoid.

1. Exfoliate! I know, we already covered this one but it is critical for smooth self-tanner application. You can use a number of methods, depending on your preferences and skin type. A washcloth works just fine, as does dry brushing or a luxurious body scrub.
2. Dry your skin thoroughly. Damp skin has a tendency to absorb the product unevenly and you won’t realize the blotchiness until it’s too late.
3. Don’t try to apply it all over all at once; work in sections. Gentle circular motions help ensure a more even application for every area. I also highly recommend using a tinted self-tanner so that you can see where you have applied the product. Makes for much fewer surprises!
4. Wash your hands after each section. Nothing gives away a new self-tan like orange palms. If you prefer, wearing gloves is a very reasonable alternative.
5. Dilute the self-tanner with lotion on your drier areas such as elbows and knees and ankles. The drier areas have a tendency to absorb the color more readily and you will end up with those areas being darker.
6. Let your skin dry thoroughly before getting dressed; typically ten minutes is reasonable. If you can, try to wear loose clothing and avoid sweating for about three hours to let the color fully develop.
7. If the color develops darker in some areas, you can gently exfoliate that area to help even it out. “Gently” is the key – you do not want to exfoliate too much otherwise you will end up with the opposite issue. Instead of darker areas you could end up with lighter areas and then it is a vicious cycle to even everything back out again.

As a product pair, I was extremely impressed with the Vivo Per Lei Botanical Matcha Renewing Body Scrub and Purifying Body Butter. It made me realize that I have possibly been neglecting the skin on my body. 

Ever since I was young, I was aware of the advantages of taking care of my skin all over, from my face to my heels. I am mostly a minimalist when it comes to clothing and shoes and furniture, and even kitchen gadgets. But I always have a collection of facial care and body care products ready at my fingertips. I like having options based on how my skin is feeling that day, drier or oilier or just plain persnickety. Likewise, I take pleasure and relaxation from my evening routine. My morning routine tends to be more hurried as I try to get out the door to work, but the evening is for me to take care of me. It is a nice twenty-minute time frame that removes the stress and dirt of the day, and prepares me for sleep. I rarely have issues falling asleep and I think that it due partly to my regimen, like my body knows it is time to get ready to sleep.

After having the chance to try these two products from Vivo Per Lei, I am very interested in exploring this line further, including both the other body products and the skincare. Based on how my body’s skin felt, I can only imagine what this brand has to offer for my face.

Shampoo and Conditioner. Can’t live without them. Especially when one pair in particular makes your hair look like it came out of a high-end hair commercial. Some, of course, promote themselves as helpful and a smoothing sensation results after using it. But, unfortunately, a lot of hair shampoos and conditioners give out a lot of promises that they don’t end up accomplishing.

That’s until I discovered Nubi Hair. It’s Nourishing and Moisturizing Shampoo and the Nourishing and Moisturizing Conditioner were the duo I never thought I desperately needed. It’s a combination of amazingness and wonder. It gives you the feeling of a Super Model walking into the runway. Hair on point and flowing beautifully in the air. And let’s add that I got to not only use these babies, but I also added a hair product tool as well: The Grand Curler 18/25mm.

How did my experience go? Well, let me spill that tea.

First off, I normally use a local-buy type shampoo (Suave, Dove, etc.) so I’ve never really looked into Shampoos and Conditioners from other high-end brands. Especially if they’re out of my price range. But I wanted to try something completely new to me, that’s why I ended up giving a chance to Nubi Hair. This brand is based on not only on hair care products (shampoo, conditioner, hair serum, etc.) but it also features a big variety of hair tools as well.

Moisture is very important, not only for your skin, but for your hair as well. A lot of us may have a scalp that does not produce natural moisture and do to that heritage we can end up having a dried scalp. Sometimes it can even be because of our aging. Yes, another reason we have to worry about as we keep aging. With time, we start to lose moisture. So, it’s important to keep in mind the hair and beauty products we use and its ingredients, benefits and, among everything, results.

No one wants to leave the house with a dried looking scalp. One’s scalp should always appear and be as moisturized as possible. Having that feeling of beautiful looking hair is a great moment in life itself, so why worry about those dried up scalps. This problem can be and will be fixed with the help of two hair products: Nubi Hair Moisturizing and Nourishing Shampoo and Conditioner.

The Nubi Hair Shampoo is created to smooth the fibers of the hair so it becomes easier to untangle, having it feel silky and with a shinier look. This product is enriched in proteins from olive oil and plants and as a concentrated treatment it hydrates from our root to our tip to repel that missing hydration. Some shampoos that I’ve used in past have left my scalp very dry. I won’t be mentioning the names of the brand, but I will say that it’s a very awful experience. The Nubi Hair Conditioner, on the other hand, helps out the Nubi Hair Shampoo as a “you can’t mess with us” duo. Yes, I said that. Or in this case, wrote that. Bear with me. This product is also rich in olive oils and proteins. This unique combination helps with nourishing the scalp and delivers moisture against dehydration and the hair’s breakage. This can help repair hair structure, also helps calm frizz, energizes the hair and its shine is restored for incredible healthy-looking results.

Normally, I don’t really use a conditioner so often. I basically go and shampoo my hair and that’s it, not looking behind. But I wasn’t very well informed about the benefits of a conditioner:

• Repairs breakage
• Helps create softer hair
• Smoother looking hair after drying
• Smooths our cuticle
• Results with healthy looking hair

So, after learning the benefits and importance of a good hair conditioner, I changed my mind. Let’s emphasize the word I mentioned: good. Unfortunately, not all hair brands deliver the same good results. For this specific moment it’s important that you recognize and know how your hair works. Some hairs are naturally oily, dry or very moistured. So, we wouldn’t want to over moisture or damage the hair. My hair in particular, for example, is very oily so when looking to buy a new shampoo and conditioner (sometimes) I look for more “botanical” ingredients than scientific weird sounding ingredients.

This is one of the main reasons I decided to try out the Nubi Hair shampoo and conditioner, to see if they actually moisture and nourish my hair. To me at least it’s really important that my hair looks good at all times. I’ve had moments when I was younger when a lot of shampoos were too harsh on my me and the dandruff was everywhere. There were moments where I felt uncomfortable in school and around my family. And I wasn’t the type of teenager to use a lot of hair products, so my hair wasn’t damaged all the time with hot tools.

Shampoo:

I began using the shampoo and conditioner one night that I decided to pamper myself, because everyone deserves one of course.

1. I applied a gentle amount of shampoo
2. I massaged my hair from root to tip for about 4 minutes
3. Rinsed out the shampoo
4. Waited a couple of minutes (1-2) before applying the conditioner

Conditioner:

1. I applied a small amount of the conditioner
2. Massaged as well all over my head
3. I decided to concentrate in areas like the scalp and tips
4. Left on hair for about 4 minutes
5. Rinsed out

Now, after showering and using both products, the first thing I noticed was that my hair smelled really nice. It had this soothing smell of Nature or something. I’m not kidding. It was a very attractive smell. It felt soft instantly and combing it was super easy. The conditioner had a really big effect on my hair because usually it gets tangled easily. It felt lighter on my shoulders and between the smell and softness, I couldn’t be happier. These were the types of hair products I needed as a teenager.

My hair texture was different, the tips and frizzes were also controlled. My hair is naturally a bit greasy, so I was worried the shampoo and conditioner combined were going to be too much on me. But was I wrong. These two products are recommended to be used daily even. I wouldn’t use the conditioner all the time, but it is an extra plus when wanting an even softer look after showering.

It was one of those moments where I was completely confident in myself. I didn’t have to stress about having a “good hair day“. I went out that same day to a dinner party I had planned with some of my friends and I didn’t even have to style my hair. When I mean ‘style’ I meant using a hair tool. It felt so naturally pretty and soft that it didn’t need styling. But that doesn’t mean that it’s not necessary. It’s always up to yourself if you want to style and prepare your hair a different way. You can use a straightener or curling wand.

Speaking of curling wands, after trying out the shampoo and conditioner about a week or so later I decided to style my hair using the next product of this review: The Grand Curler.

Curls, you either hate them or love them. It’s a must for most but a pass for others. In my case, I never say no to a head full of beautiful curls. • I curled all the pieces of hair around my head and it took about 5-6 minutes
• Remove the glove and turned off the wand
• Comb through my curls and finished

To say that I was excited about my curls in an understatement. I was ECSTATIC. I looked like a million bucks. I looked like I came off a runway, so yes, I was pretty excited. I was happy because I didn’t have that frizzy hair all over my head like I’ve had in previous styles. It felt soft and manageable. I didn’t even have to overdue my make-up, because my hair was more than enough. This product allowed me to create the style I wanted without damaging my hair and, of course, the shampoo and conditioner are not left behind either. These three products are the friends you actually need to boost up that confidence.

Have you heard that saying that declares that diamonds are a girl’s best friend? I’ve been trying Lionesse’s Diamond De-Puffer for some weeks now, and I must tell you, I don’t know if they are a girl’s best friend, but surely, they’re your skin’s best ally.

I’ll start my story from the top:

The last couple of months I’ve been feeling rather tired and with a lot of stress. Everybody knows that stress affects everything from your health to your job. At night, I couldn’t sleep, so every morning, I woke up feeling even more tired than the day before. Obviously, this began to have physical repercussions. My skin was starting to acquire a dull aspect. For several days I dedicated to read all about gemstone skin care. Although I’ve never heard of it, gems have been used for makeup and beauty treatments since ancient times.

A Brief History of Gemstones as Beauty and Healing Aids

For thousands of years, people have been using crystals and gemstones for beauty and healing purposes.

The Egyptians used pulverized malachite and lapis lazuli for eye makeup. They thought that green and blue colors protected those who wore it from evil.

Chinese medicine incorporated healing crystals and gemstones like jade to their acupuncture practices, and it was a venerated stone between royalty.

In Greece, onyx was used for protection against adversaries in war conflicts.

Curiously enough, diamonds have been around long time ago, but not as healing crystals or even jewelry. For their hardness, they were used as tools! The first record that we have of the use of diamonds as jewelry or embezzlement is in Ancient India, where they use diamond rings as symbol of status, and placed them in the eyes of their deities.

My Review of Lionesse’s Diamond De-Puffer

Finally, one morning I woke up with such puffy eyes, that I myself got scared when I saw my face in the mirror. In that precise moment, I understood that it was time to do something.

I took the beautiful box in which the Diamond De-Puffer was perfectly placed and opened it. I was mesmerized with the beauty of the whole package. The box itself was very soft to the touch and had silver glitter. It opens in the most unusual way, making it easy to have access to the product. The bottle is of a bright silver color, lightweight, and very beautiful.

I opened it very carefully and pumped some cream on my ring finger. Very gently, I applied the cream to my under eye area, and tapped it until my skin absorbed it completely. I decided that I would rest my eyes for a while, so I just lied on my bed, hoping for the Diamond De-Puffer to really work its magic.

What a wonderful surprise it was to get up a couple of hours later and see that the cream really worked! My puffy eyes were no more!!! It was amazing! The Diamond De-Puffer really took some years from my face! I looked rested, and the skin around my eyes not only seemed firmer, it also felt tighter. It was a miracle!

So, if you’re really struggling with eye puffiness, I really, really, really recommend you use Lionesse’s Diamond De-Puffer. I wanted more!

After that amazing recovery, I thought that I should make some changes if I really wanted to improve my skin’s appearance. I told you before that it wasn’t only puffy eyes; I was really struggling with fine lines and wrinkles, too. I’m telling you, these last months have really made an impact in the look and feel of my skin.

My Review of Lionesse’s Black Onyx Mask

I must tell you that using Lionesse’s products is a luxurious experience from the beginning to the end. The packaging is so beautiful! Is like the promise that your face will look and feel as soft and luminous as the boxes after you use their products.

Inside this beautiful, elegant, and sleek black box, you will find a perfectly placed luxurious bottle containing the Black Onyx Mask.

I’ve been using masks since my teen years, so I considered myself an expert in this area, but Lionesse’s masks made me discover some shameful truths, like that I knew nothing about how to apply a mask.  I always used my fingers to apply face masks, but when un-boxing the Black Onyx Mask, I noticed that it came with a spoon. The spoon, of course, is for applying the mask without having to use your fingers, which can introduce bacteria, germs, and other contaminating agents to your face and to the mask as well. It also adds a sense of luxury and lavishness, maximizing your masking experience.

The Black Onyx Mask smooths really nicely over the skin and has an instant warming effect. This helps detoxing and purifying your skin, while it draws out all the dirt and dead cells. As I applied it, I could feel it already doing its magic. I waited 15 minutes, just as the instructions indicate, and then I rinsed it with fresh water. My skin definitely felt very soft and velvety smooth, and it looked brighter!

The whole experience was incredible, and I can confirm that this mask safe my face! I’ve been using it since, and it has softened the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. I look younger and healthier than ever, and my face achieved a very luminous glow.

Never Underestimate the Power of Feeling Beautiful

It’s amazing how beauty products can have such an impact in one’s life. Since I’ve been using Lionesse’s products, I’ve been feeling so much better! Of course, it isn’t just the products, but they are a great help. Nothing farther from the truth. Pampering and indulging ourselves must be of top importance to preserve our good health, mentally and physically.

Feeling so good has inspired me to help other people to feel better, to be happier. I entered a volunteer program to engage and reconnect with my community. I also started considering making a career change and start studying something quite different to what I have been doing for years.  And all of this thanks to two amazing and wonderful skin care products!

Final Words

For all of those who feel tired, desperate, and disappointed I tell you, there’s hope. This isn’t as good as it gets, it really gets better. I will share with you my daily routine for feeling better. This way, you can start making some changes little by little.

1. I wake up early.
2. I work out
3. I keep a proper skin care routine that consists of:
   • Cleansing my face
   • Applying toner
   • Using a nourishing serum
   • Applying moisturizer
   • Applying sunscreen
   • Using the Black Onyx Mask twice a week
   • Applying the Diamond De-Puffer whenever necessary
4. I never go to bed without cleansing my face first
5. I eat healthy
6. I surround myself with positive people
7. I keep a daily journal
8. I go to bed early (after thoroughly cleansing my face of course!)
9. I try to stay organized
10. I never give up.

You don’t have to incorporate all these things right away. You don’t have to follow this list exactly either (except maybe for the skin care routine, which I wholeheartedly recommend). Just do like I did. I started with just two things, a facial mask and a de-puffer cream. That’s it. But it was enough to start filling up the gaps I felt I had in my life. As you start to feel more energized and more positive, you can begin to make some changes that will have great impact (a positive one) in your life.

It’s just a matter of wanting it and making it happen. Trust me, the rewards are endless. You start with beautiful, healthy glowing skin, and finish feeling and becoming a beautiful and complete human being.

Let me start by stating I am very, very grateful for my job. It is the job I’ve always wanted for myself. And, I’m only thirty years old. That’s a great accomplishment to have this young. However, yes, I still complain a little – allow me to explain. I have a love/hate relationship with the amount of time I have to be seated and in front of a computer screen. Before it hits lunchtime, my eyes are already burning and tired. Granted, this tiredness could be due to the additional screen time I intake by staring into my phone. Nonetheless, it doesn’t matter how much sleep I get the night before my eyes and attention span suffer throughout the entire day. So, I joined the coffee addict club and fixed that problem easily. But, another (more serious) set of problems began. Let’s talk about these horrible dark undereye circles and acne that has started to appear on my face.

I’ve heard that applying coffee grains directly to your skin can help with alleviating puffiness and dark circles. But, when you’re intaking 2-3 cups of coffee a day like me, your skin receives an entirely different effect. Drinking an excessive amount of coffee has been known to lead to dehydrated skin, acne breakouts, discoloration, and wrinkles. A woman’s worse nightmare. Although, some skin damage theories from coffee have yet to be scientifically proved- but I’m proof! I noticed a difference in the health of my skin a month after my coffee intake increased. Besides me getting older every minute of the day, coffee was the only change happening in my routine. So now I have to choose between my dream job and my youthful face. I really hope Vine Vera can help.

Vine Vera

The company Vine Vera is fairly new to the skin care market. They were established in 2012. However, since their debut, Vine Vera has become widely known for their innovative use of resveratrol to challenge skin aging and other types of skin care issues. If you are not familiar with resveratrol, here’s a quick crash course of everything you need to know about Vine Vera’s key ingredient:

• Resveratrol is a member of the compound group polyphenol.
• You can find resveratrol in the skin of grapes, peanuts, and berries.
• Resveratrol is full of antioxidants
• The high content of antioxidants present prevents and terminates free radicals from the skin
• Resveratrol ultimately protects your skin from aging
• Resveratrol also reduces the presence of acne and wrinkles and protects your skin from harmful UV rays.

Wait, that’s a lie I need options with everything in my life. Vine Vera has already impressed me with their extensive product list. I also appreciate that the products are not tested on animals.

Vine Vera Cabernet High-Potency Collection

I received three items from the Vine Vera Cabernet Collection. I received the Resveratrol Cabernet High-Potency Cream, Resveratrol Cabernet High-Potency Cellular Peel, and Resveratrol Cabernet High-Potency Eye Serum. The products are packaged in sturdy brown boxes with a metallic gold shimmer. The directions, ingredients, and descriptions are all written on the back of the boxes. The packaging is nice. But, I adored the shiny chrome container and dispensers that every product was in the most.

This will be my first time using a “high-potency” product. I do have sensitive skin, so I did a spot test with the cellular peel before I started my official review. For those unfamiliar with a spot test, it is where you apply a small amount of product to an area of your body and wait 24 hours to see if there’s a negative reaction. I always do my arm. Everything checked out good, so it was time to get started. If you have sensitive skin like me I would highly suggest doing the same; better safe than sorry.

Resveratrol Cabernet High-Potency Cellular Peel

I decided to start with the cellular peel. Mainly because it’s an exfoliant. I think exfoliants are always great to start with because they get rid of everything that’s blocking your pores. Especially if you wear makeup, always deeply clean your face before using products to fully revitalize your skin. 

The Resveratrol Cabernet High-Potency Cellular Peel description states, “The Resveratrol High Potency Cellular Peel is carefully designed to rid the skin of dirt and oils caught beneath the surface. Our unique formula will cleanse the skin without damaging your skin. This cellular peel is formulated with a high dose of Resveratrol to give you all the benefits of this wonderful ingredient. The peel also has visible traces of Nut Shell Powder, which is a natural exfoliant, and Glycerin, to hold in extra moisture, giving you the ultimate hydration. The Resveratrol High Potency Cellular Peel will leave your skin feeling fresh and looking radiant.” Wait, nutshell powder?! Are you as surprised as I am? Apparently, I’m not as knowledgeable in skin care as I thought I was. I walk past those old nuts in my grandmas’ canister on her living room table every day. I had no idea those walnuts grounded into a powder could enhance my beauty.

For centuries the ingredient nutshell powder, which is actual nuts grounded into a fine powder, has been used by skin care companies and individuals to exfoliate. Nutshell powder is commonly added to products such as lotions, and cleansers to gently exfoliate the skin and allow the other nourishing ingredients of the products to get inside the pores. This will boost the results of the products. Nutshell powder is most useful for skin conditions like acne, eczema and even more severe conditions such as canker sores and psoriasis.

The instructions do not promote daily use. On the back of the box, one or twice weekly use is recommended. Even though I spot tested I wasn’t quite sure it was the “gentle” enough for my skin. I decided to only use the exfoliant once. Just to play it safe.

The cellular peel has a gel texture. The color is pretty much clear but has a brown tint. The directions instruct to apply a quarter-sized amount to your face. I didn’t think that would be enough, but as I began to spread the gel over my face the texture changed. The peel was thinning to a water- like texture. It was actually really cool to see it transform.  I used a circular motion and spread the cellular peel around my entire face. There was no time suggestion in the instructions. I let the peel sit for about five minutes and then washed off with cool water. While letting the peel sit I felt a tingly reaction from my skin. After rinsing the peel off I felt a light burning sensation on my skin. Around my under-eye area, the burning was a little more intense. I immediately rinsed my face again with cold water. Luckily a third rinse instantly- relieved the burning.

Again, I’ll state: this product is high-potency and please spot test before using. Use a more sensitive area than I did. The forearm might be more accurate. I might have let the peel sit too long as well. So, I’ll suggest immediate rinsing.

Once the burning ended I did feel my pores breathing and my skin had a soft and smooth texture. No immediate sign of improvement under my eyes was noticed. But, I sure do hope the burning was worth it. Next up was moisturizing.

Resveratrol Cabernet High-Potency Cream

I checked the ingredients on this cream. I needed to make sure this cream would highly and efficiently soothe my skin back to normal. The description on Vine Vera states, “This unique ultra-light cream will leave your skin feeling silky smooth and radiant. Infused with derivatives of vitamin A (Retinyl Palmitate) and vitamin E (Tocopheryl Acetate), Avocado oil (Persea Gratissima Oil), Seaweed Extract (Laminaria Japonica Extract) along with Resveratrol Ferment Extract, this fabulous cream will help fight the signs of aging.” Jackpot! I love using so many of these ingredients. I’ll share why:

Vitamin E

• Vitamin E is plentiful in antioxidants. That means it can fight free radicals along with resveratrol. Vitamin E will also replenish lipids. Lipids contribute to maintaining youthful looking skin. And, the most important reason why I love vitamin E is that it’s great for sensitive skin.

Vitamin A

• Vitamin A used as a topical cream or incorporated in your diet can rejuvenate your skin. Vitamin A reduces the chances of acne forming on the skin. It also fights off aging symptoms from the skin.

Avocado Oil

• Avocado oil is high in potassium and that gives it the ability to nourish skin. Avocado oil leaves the skin soft and smooth. There was study performed in 2013 that found the fatty acids in avocado oil can rapidly heal wounds. Antioxidants are in avocado oil which helps heals eczema, too. 

Seaweed Extract

• Seaweed extract hydrates and has anti-inflammatory properties. Seaweed extract also boosts the cell turnover rate in the skin, and this helps eliminate dark spots and damaged areas.

I was uber-excited to try this cream. The texture is light and creamy. The smell isn’t so pleasant though. That didn’t bother me too much because I was just too anxious to hydrate. The directions state to apply a generous amount during the day and at night. I used a quarter sized amount.

There was instantly noticeable rejuvenation. My skin was glowing, hydrated and had a youthful appearance. I am thoroughly satisfied with the texture of my skin after applying the resveratrol high-potency cream for the first time. I applied it twice every day for this review in the morning and at night.

Resveratrol Cabernet High-Potency Eye Serum

Please, please, please, fix my under-eye situation! This is the prayer I said to this eye serum before opening the box. This serum is to be used daily and has three main ingredients, Resveratrol ( Pichia/ Resveratrol Ferment Extract), Palmitoyl Oligopeptide and Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid). On the company website, Vine Vera promotes that these ingredients will work together to, “reduce the visibility of wrinkles and fine lines. The Eye Serum will also improve skin tone and texture, leaving your skin looking rejuvenated, smooth and radiant.”

Just one small squirt of this serum was enough for both of my under eyes. Here’s what the serum looks like.

The gel does not spread thin like the cellular peel. It has a thicker texture and you’ll need to rub it in for about 15 seconds. There was no burning or tingly sensation after applying. The serum absorbed well and it didn’t leave my skin dry either. I used this eye serum once daily.

The Results

By the end of the seven-day review, there was an improvement in my skin condition-especially my eyes. The area under my eyes had finally lightened. My entire eye area had a more youthful appearance and remained hydrated the entire week. There was even a day I forgot to put the Resveratrol Cabernet High-Potency Cream on before work and didn’t notice because my skin did not feel dry at all. This was after a morning wash. Remarkable, right?  My acne was not severe to begin there were just random breakouts I had happening quite frequently. After the second day, I did not have any breakouts. And my previous breakouts were cleared. Yup, I had a brand-new rejuvenated face ya’ll! 

When it comes to purchasing these items, I’m going to be very honest with you. The Resveratrol Cabernet High-Potency Cellular Peel is not my favorite item. However, it works. My skin was exfoliated and clean as a whistle after using it. But, I think my skin is too sensitive for it. The price is $195. If you are struggling with constantly clogged pores and severe acne I would suggest the Resveratrol Cabernet High-Potency Celluar Peel. The Resveratrol Cabernet High-Potency cream is $400. This product is lovely and jam-packed with nutrients your skin needs. I would suggest buying this cream for great hydration. Last but not least the Resveratrol Cabernet High-Potency Eye Serum, which is $350 and worth every penny. This serum erased months of damage under my eyes in a week. So, cm’on let’s be real -you can’t put a price on that. The Resveratrol Cabernet High-Potency Collection from Vine Vera has quality products worth purchasing.

Do you believe in family curses? If not, come take a look at my face. This weary -eye area of bags, discoloration, and wrinkles I’m wearing is a curse people. I promise I’m not depressed, sleepy, or over the age of 65. My eye area is just doomed.

I’ve tried to break this generational curse on multiple occasions. I’ve done home remedies and tried all the trendy skin care products. None, not one of them has worked so far. So, I’ve been coasting through my social days (when I have to leave my house) with foundations and concealers to hide these aging eyes. But, here’s my current dilemma. I’m finally in a serious relationship and we’re planning on moving in together soon. That temporary fix of makeup will no longer suffice. I’ll have to eventually wash it off at night and expose my baggage (eye baggage that is.) I need help in the skincare department a.s.a.p. Rejuvenation in my eye area must happen quickly.

Apparently with a combination of science and plants, Introstem can fix my skin situation easily with their products. According to Introstem:

Did you catch all of those enticing words? Like, technology, advanced, stem cells, etc. Yup, I’m expecting these Introstem products to bring my eyes back to their rightful, youthful state. And, maybe my new natural and rejuvenated eye area will swoon my boyfriend into that engagement ring I’ve been waiting on. No pressure Introstem. I’m just counting on you to save my relationship (just kidding.) But first, before I put anything on my face I need to know what exactly stem cell technology entails.

What is Stem Cell Technology?

Well, stem cell technology has been integrated into skin products and become another skin care trend. This trend is fairly new to headlines too. However, after researching, this innovation is genius and I expect it to prosper with longevity in the skin care market. Warning: I’ve never fully understood science and all its jargon. Therefore, bear with me as I explain this scientific process.

Stem cell technology is primarily used to repair and renew damaged cells. Stem cells have the ability to divide and then multiply rapidly. When stem cells multiply they mimic the other cells. This ultimately boosts the cell production and turnover rate and rejuvenates that area. This remarkable process is used to cure chronic illnesses, like Alzheimer and Parkinson’s disease. In skin care, stem cell technology is used to repair and cease aging conditions.

Plant stem cells are primarily used in skin care products. But, animal stem cells are known to be used too so I suggest always, thoroughly checking the ingredients. These stem cells contain antioxidants and amino acids, which are the key ingredients to rejuvenating skin. So, not only does this stem cell technology replenish the existing cells with antioxidants and amino acids to help them keep thriving. The stem cells boost the growth rate. The production of collagen (which is needed to maintain youthful looking skin) will increase as the cell growth rate increases. Win, win … right? Basically, I look at stem cell technology in skin care as the best friend that you have everything in common with. That best friend always in your corner. Every time that you’re feeling down that best friend is there with ice cream to fix your feelings and laughs to keep you going. Everyone needs a best friend like this, right? I’m ready to give Introstem a try.

The Review

I received the Introstem products Stem Cell Eye Serum, Stem Cell Day Moisturizer, and Thermostem Mask. The Stem Cell Eye Serum, and Stem Cell Day Moisturizer are labeled as, “The Intro Collection.” The Thermostem Mask is labeled as, “The Thermostem Collection.”

All of the products came in hefty boxes with neutral colors. Very minimal packaging with minimal writing on the front, but the back will give you all the information you need before applying. Even though I’m describing the packaging as minimal it still has an interesting confidential vibe. As if the products are fresh from the laboratory and secretly shipped to only my house.

I noticed hemp oil written on the front of every package as an ingredient. And, as soon as you open the box there’s a cannabis symbol embedded in the top lid.

Definitely wasn’t expecting that ingredient. But, as an advocate for the medicinal marijuana community I’m not complaining. I’ve read about the wonders that hemp oil can accomplish for skin. That along with my new-found stem cell knowledge has me ecstatic about this review. Let’s begin! .

Here’s a reminder of where I’m starting. I cannot get rid of the bags under my eyes. Discoloration and wrinkles are also an issue in this area. My eyes look tired all the time and I’m just too young for this. 

By the end of this week I would love to see an entire rejuvenated face. Also, an even complexion around my eyes and most importantly – no more bags!

Stem Cell Eye Serum

I reached for the eye serum first! Introstem promises to, “plump and smooth away fine lines and puffiness around the eyes, leaving you with brighter, livelier-looking skin.” 

I didn’t want to waste any time reaching these results. The serum comes in a very classy glass bottle. The shape is unique and reminds me of a vintage perfume bottle.

As instructed by the directions, I washed my face before applying the serum. The directions state to only use 1-2 pumps on the undereye area and around the orbital bone. The serum is a clear gel. It took a few rounds of patting for the gel to fully absorb. I always pat my under-eye area, I never rub because that area is sensitive.  There was a slight “aerie” sensation felt from the serum, but it only lasted about ten seconds

The serum fully absorbed into my skin. I didn’t have any sticky residue issues on my fingers or face either which is common (and annoying) with serums. There were no immediate results from the serum. And, I wasn’t expecting any because the Stem Cell Eye Serum is for daily use. I will be using this every morning for my week review. Here’s what it looks like when applied.

Can we take a moment to discuss the surprise ingredient hemp oil?  Hemp oil is an ingredient in this eye serum, the Stem Cell Day Moisturizer, and Thermostem mask as well. I know the wonderful benefits that hemp oil has to offer skin care. But, I’m aware that most people don’t. I fault the lack of hemp seed oil’s popularity to the negative stigma that cannabis plants have in our society. Hopefully I, along with the products of Introstem can change your perspective (especially if you want youthful, healthy skin.) Let’s talk about all the benefits that hemp oil has to offer skin.

Cannabis Sativa (Hemp) Seed Oil

Hemp is a plant and a species of cannabis that contains 0.3% or less of THC. Hemp seed oil is made by pressing hemp seeds together until oil extracts. The seeds will normally lose all of their THC content during this process. Once it’s an oil it is ready to help rejuvenate your skin by:

Stem Cell Day Moisturizer

I applied the Stem Cell Day Moisturizer after the eye serum. The moisturizer came in a frosted glass container. Which was also very classy, like the serum bottle. I am loving the aesthetics of this collection. 

The moisturizer is white and creamy with a very light texture. I appreciate the smell of this moisturizer. It has a light fragrance that doesn’t smell toxic like most skin care products. On the back of the box, it states “This exquisite blend of shea butter, vitamin E (tocopheryl acetate) and grape stem cells helps deliver skin-loving nutrients while fortifying your natural, skin-protective barrier. Discover a plumper, more youthful complexion by applying the stem cell day moisturizer daily.” This is an honest review, so I’ll disclose my initial thought after reading the word “daily,” which was:  I’m going to need more product than this, this little bottle may not last the entire week. In my opinion, the amount of moisturizer inside the container is small. But, I also have yet to try it, therefore maybe much of it isn’t needed daily. Let’s see!

The directions state to use a generous amount. I used about a quarter sized amount. I placed it in my palms and then massaged it onto my entire face.

The moisturizer absorbed well. A quarter-sized amount was what I needed. It provided the perfect amount of hydration. My nose tends to get really oily with moisturizers, but with this product that didn’t happen. There was a subtle, shine to my skin just how I like it. Along with the Stem Cell Eye Serum, I continued to use the Stem Cell Day Moisturizer Daily.

Grape Stem Cell Extract

There is another key and common ingredient amongst these products. I can’t go any further without mentioning the notorious grape stem cell extract. Get ready, more scientific talk is coming. Remember earlier when I discussed the abilities of a stem cell (I hope you didn’t skip over that part?) Well, in these products grape stem cell extracts are a prominent ingredient.

Why grape stem cells? Because they are great at fighting aging. Along with their ability to restore and replicate themselves as other cells, grapes are high in antioxidants too. Antioxidants are great for treating acne. And, more importantly, antioxidants can help cease pre-mature skin aging. This is just what my weary eyes need.

Thermostem Mask

On the third day of the review, I decided to do the Thermostem Mask that evening. I love a good face mask, especially after a long day of work. The whole process of applying, waiting and rinsing is somewhat therapeutic for me. A noteworthy fact about Introstem’s Thermostem Mask is that it is infused with thermal catalysts. That means this mask packs a little heat.

It comes in a frosted gray glass container, and it is slightly larger than the moisturizer. It also comes with an applicator tool to help spread the face mask.

The color of the mask was a surprise when opened. The mask is a rather beautiful, lush gray. The texture is light but has a tacky feel to it as well. Perfect texture for a face mask. The directions ask that your face is cleaned and still wet and to apply the mask in an upward motion. There is then a warning of a heated sensation that will be felt and to allow the mask to sit for 10-15 minutes.

I felt the heat pretty quickly- it wasn’t intense though. After about 20 seconds the heat subsided. I have sensitive skin and the heat was fine for me. The mask did not harden, but I could feel the texture of it tighten just a little bit.

I did the minimum time just to stay on the safe side. I rinsed with cool water after 10 minutes. Rinsing was an easy process; no scrubbing was necessary. After rinsing my face had a softer texture. A boost in hydration and moisture was noticeable too. The instructions request that this face mask is only used monthly.

Skin Check

Here’s a skin check-in on the fourth day of the review. This was taken the during the afternoon. At this point I had done the Thermostem mask that previous evening, and I had applied my daily Stem Cell Eye Serum and Stem Cell Day Moisturizer. Can you see the significant difference in my under-eye area? I’m so excited about it. Rejuvenation has definitely begun.

The Results

Overall, this was a great week in the name of skin care. My face has definitely improved. My under-eye area is not completely baggage free. However, the puffiness has decreased. Same with the complexion around my eyes. I would still like to see the tone improved more, but it has come a long way. I predict about another week using Introstem daily and I’ll reach my eye rejuvenation goal.  As far as my overall facial appearance, I am impressed and satisfied with the improvements. My skin complexion has evened to one color and my face stays hydrated throughout the entire day.

I searched the company website for the price of these items. The Stem Cell Eye Serum is priced at $500, the Stem Cell Day Moisturizer is $350, and the ThermoStem Mask is priced at $1,500. Based on the price and performance of these products, I would definitely recommend purchasing. Especially if you’re having the same skin issues like me.

Trust me, I’m only 31 years old and I’ve been trying to rejuvenate my eyes for over a year now. It’s not easy, to get your youth back at any age. Home remedies will not work all the time. So, once you finally find quality and natural products like these – there’s  going to be a price you must pay. Hereditary skin curses can be broken! After these results, I stand by Introstem I think they’re worth every penny.

First Impressions of The Aqua Collection

After days of waiting, I finally received the package in the mail. My first reaction after opening the box can be best described in one word: WOW. From the gorgeous, sleek packaging to the generous bottle sizes, I was definitely impressed. 

The Aqua Collection consists of five skincare products that are all aimed to restore your skin’s hydration.The contents of the package include:

• Aqua Melting Mask
• Mask Application Brush
• Aqua Hydration Serum
• Aqua Nano Cream
• Microneedle Roller

Vou Pre suggests that you use the Aqua Collection in this order: 

1) Microneedle Roller

2) Aqua Melting Mask

3) Aqua Hydration Serum

4) Aqua Nano Cream. 

These products work well individually, though it is highly recommended that you use them together for maximum effects. For the integrity of this review, I used the products in the exact order recommended. Each product is specifically designed to target certain areas of the skin and I wanted to experience these products authentically.

Step 1: Microneedle Roller

Microneedling is commonly used by dermatologists and is widely popular in the skincare community. A microneedle roller (or derma roller) consists of thin, tiny needles that glide over and penetrate the skin in small punctures. The penetration stimulates the derma layer of the skin and prompts regrowth of the skin cells. This may sound scary, but it’s really not! Microneedling is painless and simply feels like light pressure on the skin.

How to Use:   

Cleanse your face. I’ve been a huge fan of microneedling and one thing that I’ve learned is to always prep by cleansing your face. Since you will be deep-cleaning your skin, it is important to start with a clean canvas. We don’t want any dirt getting into those pores!

Apply a face oil or serum. Applying an oil or serum before microneedling allows for the roller to glide smoothly over the skin. Plus, the vitamins from the oil will penetrate deep into your pores for glowing and healthy skin! Personally, I love to use Vitamin C or Vitamin E oil. Both are lightweight, soft, and extremely beneficial for the skin. If I’m planning to work on stubborn areas (think wrinkles, scars, hyperpigmentation), I’ll apply Vitamin E oil. 

Glide the roller gently across your face. As you apply the roller to the targeted areas, roll the tool vertically, horizontally, and diagonally, 5 times each! Repeat for each area. Make sure to use gentle, delicate pressure as you glide the roller. Focus on each targeted areas (wrinkles, enlarged pores) for 60 seconds, for a total of 4-10 minutes. 

Don’t forget to clean your microneedle roller! There’s nothing worse than using a dirty microneedle roller on clean skin. To sanitize and clean your roller, simply follow these steps:

• Place your microneedle roller in dishwashing soap, hydrogen peroxide, or rubbing alcohol. 
• Let it soak for about 15-20 minutes.
• Allow your microneedle roller to dry.

Typically, I will cleanse my microneedle roller once every week, but you can clean yours as often as you’d like!

Benefits of Microneedling:

So. Many. Benefits. From skin rejuvenation to texture improvement, Microneedling affects the skin in a lot of positive ways!

Microneedling stimulates the growth of Collagen and Elastin. When the miniscule needles glide over the face, the body induces a healing response. This healing response stimulates the growth of brand new collagen and elastin – the proteins responsible for tight, youthful skin! 

What else? Microneedling not only rejuvenates the growth of new skin cells, it may also help to tighten the skin, reduce wrinkles, stretch marks, hyperpigmentation, scars, and other signs of aging.

The Results:

Microneedling/derma rolling provides long-lasting improvements to the skin, but these improvements don’t just happen overnight! It takes consistency and patience. After two weeks of using the 0.3 mm microneedle roller, I noticed that my complexion was more even, my skin was softer, and my face felt tighter and more supple.

Step 2: Aqua Melting Mask

Packed with Vitamin A, Vitamin E, and fruit/plant extracts, the Aqua Melting Mask is an exciting combination of nature’s finest ingredients. This mask hydrates the skin while providing the ultimate at-home spa experience. 

How To Use: 

• Use the application brush to apply mask all over the face and neck.
• Leave mask on for 10 minutes. 
• Massage the mask into your skin until water droplets form.
• Allow the droplets to absorb. 
• Do not rinse. 

The Results:

The ingredients in this product are amazing! With Acai Berry, Pomegranate, and Goji Berry Extracts, I was head over heels for this mask. Due to these ingredients, the mask is lightly scented. The scent has a hint of flower and is entirely refreshing, but not overwhelming or unnatural. The mask itself was light and gave my skin a nice, cooling sensation. 

After massaging the mask into my skin, I noticed immediate results. My skin was excitingly dewy, rehydrated, and glowing! 

Step 3: Aqua Hydration Serum

Serums are specially designed to be absorbed quickly and effectively into the skin. This Ultra-Hydration Serum is packed with nutrients and powerful ingredients that draw water to the face, stimulate skin cells, and rejuvenate tired skin. 

How To Use: 

Apply 2-3 drops on the face and neck. Perform this step after you’ve cleansed your face, used the microneedle roller, and applied the Aqua Melting Mask. 

Gently massage the serum into the face. Use gentle pats or circular motions to rub the serum into your skin. Personally, I like to apply the serum first by patting, then by massaging in circular motions. Always take care to massage the product in an upward motion – this helps to lift and sculpt your face.

Let the serum fully absorb. This may take a few minutes, but it really depends on your skin! If your skin is tired or deprived of nutrients, it may take less time for your skin to absorb the ingredients.

The Results:

The Aqua Hydration Serum is soft, unscented, and fast-acting. After applying the serum, it only took one minute for it to fully absorb into my skin. I was shocked at how effective it was! 

After a few nights of using the serum, my skin felt brand new. I went from severely dry and cracked skin to glassy and smooth skin within days. My skin was desperate for nutrients and this serum provided all that I needed. 

Step 4: Aqua Nano Cream 

This moisturizer is the ultimate luxury experience! Infused with gold, coconut oil, and collagen, the Aqua Nano Cream restores your skin’s hydration while leaving you with a silky, glowing complexion. 

How To Use: 

• Apply all over clean face and neck.
• Work the product into the skin using circular, upward motions.
• Allow the product to fully absorb. 

The Results:

The Aqua Nano Cream was one of my favorites from this collection for its long-lasting wear and gentle ingredients. Typically, moisturizers are too thick for my liking and end up causing breakouts on my skin. The Nano Cream moisturizer was incredibly light and airy. And, I used it twice a day and did not break out once! If you’re looking for a high-end moisturizer, I definitely recommend this one.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I couldn’t be more impressed with Vou Pre. There are a lot of skincare companies out there that will try and sell products that aren’t shown to have any real benefits, but Vou Pre is not one of them. With the finest ingredients, luxurious packaging, and effective products, it’s easy to tell that Dr. Luchetti is extremely knowledgeable about her field and made these products with the highest research and care. 

Since I first started using Vou Pre’s products, I’ve noticed significant changes to my skin. There has been a huge transformation in my skin’s hydration levels, texture, and tone. My skin looks so much younger and tighter! Vou Pre exceeded my expectations and I cannot wait to try out the other collections.

While I would never say no to trying out a new skin care product, I also have some long-standing favorites that I would likely never replace. Once I find a product that seems to really help my skin, I tend to stay loyal. After all, why mess with what works? 

My skin is sometimes dry…sometimes sensitive…and sometimes I get the odd breakout too. Fine lines are also starting to creep up, especially around my eyes and mouth. With such a varied range of skin concerns to target, I used to always pick ’n’ mix my skin care products from several different brands. Although fun at first, this quickly became tedious. 

Fortunately, everything changed for the better once I found Lavelier…

Who is Lavelier? 

I first discovered Lavelier a couple of years ago, stumbling upon their Lexington Avenue store while shopping my way around Manhattan’s East Side. The overall aesthetic of their store really appealed to me, so I ventured in to see what they were about. 

Lavelier is a luxury skin care brand that strives to harness the power and potential of one very special ingredient – red coral seaweed, otherwise known as corallina officinalis. Each of their products, in each of their collections, contains this star botanical, with the other ingredients used in each formula carefully selected to support and enhance the effects of red coral seaweed. 

What’s So Great About Red Coral Seaweed? 

So, why has Lavelier chosen red coral seaweed as their main ingredient? Especially when there are so many other beneficial botanicals around…

Well, plants that grow on land use their roots to draw in nutrients. However, seaweed doesn’t have roots, meaning that the plant directly takes in nutrients from the ocean, making seaweed much more potent than plants grown on land. In fact, it is understood that sea plants are eight times more potent than plants that have been grown on land. 

One of the ways in which seaweed is more potent is when it comes to skin care is in terms of hydration.When applied to the skin, seaweed instantly hydrates and conditions, giving you skin that is immediately smoother and softer to the touch. 

Seaweed is also packed full of powerful antioxidants. These are key when it comes to protecting the skin from aging, since antioxidants are pretty much the only thing that will fight the free radicals damaging your skin cells. In addition to antioxidants, seaweed contains several other vitamins, minerals and skin-boosting compounds too, such as: 

• Vitamins A, B, C and E 
• Amino acids, which your skin uses to make proteins
• Proteins, which your skin can directly use to produce collagen and elastin 
• Essential fatty acids that strengthen your skin’s protective barrier 
• Zinc and magnesium, both of which can help to heal everything from acne to eczema 

The red coral seaweed that Lavelier uses in their skin care products is hydrolyzed, meaning that its bonds have been broken down in order to enhance the rate at which the skin absorbs the ingredients. 

My Lavelier Journey

In addition to learning more about the brand when I first stopped by at Lavelier’s Lexington Avenue store, I was also offered a couple of free product demonstrations – something I would never refuse! 

I tried a serum and a moisturizer from the brand’s HydroTherm Collection, and was absolutely blown away by how the products felt on my skin. Unfortunately, the products were slightly out of my price range, and so I had to turn away. 

Fast forward to one year later…

A new job, complete with a raise, as well as an increased skin care obsession sent me back in search of Lavelier. Luckily, I didn’t have to travel very far, as the brand has locations all over the USA, along with a few other countries, including: 

• Mexico 
• Canada
• Taiwan

(Don’t worry if you live anywhere else in the world – the brand ships internationally for a flat rate when you order through their website.)

I made my way to their Miami Beach store, and the rest is history. I have been using Lavelier products on my skin for just over a year now (not exclusively – other brands do sometimes tend to make an appearance in my skin care routine, but they never stick around), and I genuinely couldn’t be happier with the results.

What Makes Lavelier So Special? 

Everyone has their own reasons as to why they love different brands. For some, it may be their values, for others, it may be a particular aesthetic. For me, the reason I love Lavelier is simple – their products are truly amazing. 

I am someone who always scrutinizes the ingredient list of a skin care product before making a purchase, and I did the same with Lavelier’s products. This is an area where many brands fail, but Lavelier’s thoughtful, yet forward-thinking, curation of ingredients is what helps to really set the brand apart from their competition. (I do also admire and appreciate their values – more on that later!) 

There are several different stand-out ingredients utilized throughout Lavelier’s various collections, but here are some of my favorites: 

• Algae Extract – just like red coral seaweed, algae extract comes from the sea, and is revered for its hydrating, softening and detoxifying effects. Again, just like seaweed, algae extract is jam-packed with antioxidants, peptides, vitamins and minerals, boosting overall skin health in numerous ways 
• Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 – this is a synthetic peptide that has actually been created from one of the very same proteins used in Botox, giving this ingredient a similar, but milder, effect. It instantly smooths away expression lines and wrinkles by relaxing the facial muscles, and also boasts water-binding properties to help keep the skin better hydrated
• Sodium Hyaluronate – this powerful humectant is a form of hyaluronic acid, with the main difference being that it features a much smaller molecular size. This enables it to delve deeper into the skin, where it then has an immediate hydrating and plumping effect on skin cells, giving you a brighter and smoother appearance 
• Cactus Flower Extract – this unusual botanical is now trending in the cosmetics world, although Lavelier has already been utilizing it for a while now. Cactus flower extract is a powerful anti-inflammatory, while also boasting high levels of antioxidants and fantastic moisture-retention properties 
• Retinyl Palmitate – this form of vitamin A is a powerhouse when it comes to skin care. It does so much, from speeding up cell turnover to give you a brighter and more even skin tone, to reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, to treating acne 
• Comfrey Extract – this botanical is an amazing natural source of allantoin, a compound that boosts skin cell production while also reducing inflammation (Lavelier does also use allantoin itself in some of their products)
• Burdock Root Extract – with strong anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, this botanical has long since been used to treat a variety of different skin conditions, including eczema, psoriasis and acne 

With ingredients that hydrate, brighten, tighten, and soften, while also treating various skin conditions, it’s not really much of a surprise that Lavelier is able to provide my skin with just about all it will ever need! 

Lavelier’s Brand Values

You don’t have to be a diehard animal rights activist to understand just how unnecessary animal testing is when it comes to cosmetics. With so many technological advancements, brands now have several other options – causing pain and detriment to innocent creatures is something that simply isn’t needed. 

The cruelty-free movement is infiltrating markets all over the world, with the European Union, India and Israel banning the sale of any cosmetic products, or even cosmetic ingredients, that have been tested on animals. 

This is something that matters quite a bit to me, which is why the first question I asked at my very first visit to a Lavelier store was…

Does Lavelier test any of their products or ingredients on animals? 

Big sigh of relief…the answer was no, most definitely not. The Lavelier brand is completely cruelty-free, and 100% proud of it. 

This not only applies to animals, but to the environment too, with all ingredients being harvested in a safe and sustainable manner.

Now, remember earlier when I mentioned how I scrutinize the ingredient list of a product before making a purchase? 

One of the things I always look out for are ingredients that end with the word paraben. For example: 

• Methylparaben 
• Propylparaben 
• Isopropylparaben 
• Butylparaben 
• Sodium butylparaben 

Wondering what these paraben ingredients actually are? 

Parabens are synthetic preservatives that are commonly used in health and beauty products. From shampoos and conditioners to skin creams and makeup products, parabens work by preventing the growth of bacteria and other harmful microbes. 

However, parabens don’t come without harm themselves…

When parabens enter into the body (and they regularly do – they are absorbed into the bloodstream at an alarming rate), they mimic the estrogen hormone. This then causes significant disruptions to hormone function, resulting in parabens being linked to reproductive problems and breast cancer. In fact, when researchers studied breast cancer tumor tissue samples from 20 different women, traces of five different parabens were found in 19 of them. 

Although parabens have been linked to breast cancer in numerous studies, there is still no conclusive evidence to prove that parabens themselves are causing these tumors, meaning that the FDA has not banned the use of parabens in products sold in the USA (the European Union did this way back in 2012). 

So, with parabens being an easy way to prolong the shelf life of a product, many companies are continuing to ignore their health risks and are still using parabens in their formulas. 

Fortunately, Lavelier is different… 

All Lavelier products are paraben-free. The brand tries to use natural preservatives whenever possible, and, when synthetic alternatives do need to be used, they make sure that their choices are not detrimental to the skin in any way. 

My Lavelier Skin Care Routine

I now have a couple of shelves in my cosmetics cupboard jam-packed with Lavelier products, from various different collections. I use some of them interchangeably, but my go-to Lavelier skin care routine is as follows: 

• Biology Mousse Cleanser – an antioxidant-rich formula (featuring a long list of botanical extracts) that foams into a rich lather without drying out the skin – something that’s quite rare in a foaming cleanser  
• Marine Facial Toner – I firmly believe that a toner is a must after cleansing, mostly for rebalancing the skin’s pH level, but also for adding in an extra dose of moisture. This one contains niacinamide, sodium hyaluronate and red coral seaweed, all three revered for their hydrating properties 
• Halophil Encapsulated Serum – these single-dose serum capsules are packed with a powerful blend of free radical-fighting antioxidants. The serum is silky and lightweight, and quickly absorbs into the skin without leaving a sticky feeling behind. The capsule-like packaging also helps to retain the potency of the serum’s active ingredients  
• Moisture Allure Cream – a hydrating moisturizer that I sometimes combine with the Magnetic MicroLift Mask to enhance its effects 

Wondering how long it took before I began to see results after first using Lavelier’s products? 

To be completely honest, it varied quite a bit. 

Some products had an immediate effect, such as the Advanced Marine Bio-Syringe, although I only use this one before a special occasion. 

Others, such as the serums and moisturizers, took about six to eight weeks to really make a noticeable difference, but this is to be expected. It usually takes the skin just under two months to build new collagen and elastin fibers, with these being the proteins that keep it looking firm, smooth and tight. Many of the ingredients that Lavelier uses in their products are designed to stimulate collagen and elastin production from within, so although you need to wait a little longer to see the results, the improvements will stick around for the long term. 

Lavelier is a brand focused on innovation, and so I truly cannot wait to see the future products that they end up creating. The way in which their products have managed to take care of all of my skin’s needs has made me a devoted customer, and I can easily see myself using Lavelier products as I continue on through life. 

Well, all of this talk of Lavelier has strangely given me face mask cravings, so I’m now off to treat my skin to its monthly dose of the incredibly indulgent Coral Luminous Masque – another product I would highly recommend for people seeking an instant glow!

Let me tell you a little bit about what the product actually does.

Using a combination of galvanic current, LED light therapy, ultrasonic therapy and massage, the Jelessi Photonix-1 Facial Rejvenation tool targets and repairs the signs of aging to give a smoother, more youthful appearance. With so many functions, Jelessi does note that the device is not well suited for those with especially sensitive skin. Just to be safe, I tested the device on a small area on the inside of my thigh and wait 48 hours. I didn’t have any redness or any other kind of reaction so I decided to go forward with a trial on my face.

The manual for the device comes with several treatment suggestions. I found this especially helpful because the device has so many functions. Combining several functions at a time yields different results depending on your goals or desired appearance.

I started noticing a few breakouts on my forehead recently so I figured this was the perfect opportunity to try the Acne Treatment. After washing my face with a good acne cleanser, I powered on the device and switched on the Ultrasonic Positive Ion+ function. To get a good sense of the power, I turned the intensity to the middle range. Then, I turned on the blue LED and massaged over my forehead in small circles.

For about 2 weeks, I used the Facial Rejuvenation tool each day for about 15 minutes. In about half that time, my skin was almost completely clear already! In addition to being thrilled with the results, I love how soothing the ultrasonic mode feels on my skin. I felt like I was getting a little extra pampering in every single day!

In addition to being a superior tool for acne, this product can also be used for wrinkles and fine lines as well! I’m still in my twenties and blessed with very youthful looking skin for now, but I think my mom might like to try it out. Of course, this tool could be used as a means of aging prevention as well!

While I would never say no to trying out a new skin care product, I also have some long-standing favorites that I would likely never replace. Once I find a product that seems to really help my skin, I tend to stay loyal. After all, why mess with what works? 

My skin is sometimes dry…sometimes sensitive…and sometimes I get the odd breakout too. Fine lines are also starting to creep up, especially around my eyes and mouth. With such a varied range of skin concerns to target, I used to always pick ’n’ mix my skin care products from several different brands. Although fun at first, this quickly became tedious. 

Fortunately, everything changed for the better once I found Lavelier…

Who is Lavelier? 

I first discovered Lavelier a couple of years ago, stumbling upon their Lexington Avenue store while shopping my way around Manhattan’s East Side. The overall aesthetic of their store really appealed to me, so I ventured in to see what they were about. 

Lavelier is a luxury skin care brand that strives to harness the power and potential of one very special ingredient – red coral seaweed, otherwise known as corallina officinalis. Each of their products, in each of their collections, contains this star botanical, with the other ingredients used in each formula carefully selected to support and enhance the effects of red coral seaweed. 

What’s So Great About Red Coral Seaweed? 

So, why has Lavelier chosen red coral seaweed as their main ingredient? Especially when there are so many other beneficial botanicals around…

Well, plants that grow on land use their roots to draw in nutrients. However, seaweed doesn’t have roots, meaning that the plant directly takes in nutrients from the ocean, making seaweed much more potent than plants grown on land. In fact, it is understood that sea plants are eight times more potent than plants that have been grown on land. 

One of the ways in which seaweed is more potent is when it comes to skin care is in terms of hydration.When applied to the skin, seaweed instantly hydrates and conditions, giving you skin that is immediately smoother and softer to the touch. 

Seaweed is also packed full of powerful antioxidants. These are key when it comes to protecting the skin from aging, since antioxidants are pretty much the only thing that will fight the free radicals damaging your skin cells. In addition to antioxidants, seaweed contains several other vitamins, minerals and skin-boosting compounds too, such as: 

• Vitamins A, B, C and E 
• Amino acids, which your skin uses to make proteins
• Proteins, which your skin can directly use to produce collagen and elastin 
• Essential fatty acids that strengthen your skin’s protective barrier 
• Zinc and magnesium, both of which can help to heal everything from acne to eczema 

The red coral seaweed that Lavelier uses in their skin care products is hydrolyzed, meaning that its bonds have been broken down in order to enhance the rate at which the skin absorbs the ingredients. 

My Lavelier Journey

In addition to learning more about the brand when I first stopped by at Lavelier’s Lexington Avenue store, I was also offered a couple of free product demonstrations – something I would never refuse! 

I tried a serum and a moisturizer from the brand’s HydroTherm Collection, and was absolutely blown away by how the products felt on my skin. Unfortunately, the products were slightly out of my price range, and so I had to turn away. 

Fast forward to one year later…

A new job, complete with a raise, and an increased skin care obsession sent me back in search of Lavelier. Luckily, I didn’t have to travel very far, as the brand has locations all over the USA, along with a few other countries, including: 

• Mexico 
• Canada
• Taiwan

I made my way to their Miami Beach store, and the rest is history. I have been using Lavelier products on my skin for just over a year now (not exclusively – other brands do sometimes tend to make an appearance in my skin care routine, but they never stick around), and I genuinely couldn’t be happier with the results.

What Makes Lavelier So Special? 

Everyone has their own reasons as to why they love different brands. For some, it may be their values, for others, it may be a particular aesthetic. For me, the reason I love Lavelier is simple – their products are truly amazing. 

I am someone who always scrutinizes the ingredient list of a skin care product before making a purchase, and I did the same with Lavelier’s products. This is an area where many brands fail, but Lavelier’s thoughtful, yet forward-thinking, curation of ingredients is what helps to really set the brand apart from their competition. (I do also admire and appreciate their values – more on that later!) 

There are several different stand-out ingredients utilized throughout Lavelier’s various collections, but here are some of my favorites: 

• Algae Extract – just like red coral seaweed, algae extract comes from the sea, and is revered for its hydrating, softening and detoxifying effects. Again, just like seaweed, algae extract is jam-packed with antioxidants, peptides, vitamins and minerals, boosting overall skin health in numerous ways 
• Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 – this is a synthetic peptide that has actually been created from one of the very same proteins used in Botox, giving this ingredient a similar, but milder, effect. It instantly smooths away expression lines and wrinkles by relaxing the facial muscles, and also boasts water-binding properties to help keep the skin better hydrated
• Sodium Hyaluronate – this powerful humectant is a form of hyaluronic acid, with the main difference being that it features a much smaller molecular size. This enables it to delve deeper into the skin, where it then has an immediate hydrating and plumping effect on skin cells, giving you a brighter and smoother appearance 
• Cactus Flower Extract – this unusual botanical is now trending in the cosmetics world, although Lavelier has already been utilizing it for a while now. Cactus flower extract is a powerful anti-inflammatory, while also boasting high levels of antioxidants and fantastic moisture-retention properties 
• Retinyl Palmitate – this form of vitamin A is a powerhouse when it comes to skin care. It does so much, from speeding up cell turnover to give you a brighter and more even skin tone, to reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, to treating acne 
• Comfrey Extract – this botanical is an amazing natural source of allantoin, a compound that boosts skin cell production while also reducing inflammation (Lavelier does also use allantoin itself in some of their products)
• Burdock Root Extract – with strong anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, this botanical has long since been used to treat a variety of different skin conditions, including eczema, psoriasis and acne 

With ingredients that hydrate, brighten, tighten, and soften, while also treating various skin conditions, it’s not really much of a surprise that Lavelier is able to provide my skin with just about all it will ever need! 

Lavelier’s Brand Values

You don’t have to be a diehard animal rights activist to understand just how unnecessary animal testing is when it comes to cosmetics. With so many technological advancements, brands now have several other options – causing pain and detriment to innocent creatures is something that simply isn’t needed. 

The cruelty-free movement is infiltrating markets all over the world, with the European Union, India and Israel banning the sale of any cosmetic products, or even cosmetic ingredients, that have been tested on animals. 

This is something that matters quite a bit to me, which is why the first question I asked at my very first visit to a Lavelier store was…

Does Lavelier test any of their products or ingredients on animals? 

Big sigh of relief…the answer was no, most definitely not. The Lavelier brand is completely cruelty-free, and 100% proud of it. 

Now, remember earlier when I mentioned how I scrutinize the ingredient list of a product before making a purchase? 

One of the things I always look out for are ingredients that end with the word paraben. For example: 

• Methylparaben 
• Propylparaben 
• Isopropylparaben 
• Butylparaben 
• Sodium butylparaben 

Wondering what these paraben ingredients actually are? 

Parabens are synthetic preservatives that are commonly used in health and beauty products. From shampoos and conditioners to skin creams and makeup products, parabens work by preventing the growth of bacteria and other harmful microbes. 

However, parabens don’t come without harm themselves…

When parabens enter into the body (and they regularly do – they are absorbed into the bloodstream at an alarming rate), they mimic the estrogen hormone. This then causes significant disruptions to hormone function, resulting in parabens being linked to reproductive problems and breast cancer. In fact, when researchers studied breast cancer tumor tissue samples from 20 different women, traces of five different parabens were found in 19 of them. 

Although parabens have been linked to breast cancer in numerous studies, there is still no conclusive evidence to prove that parabens themselves are causing these tumors, meaning that the FDA has not banned the use of parabens in products sold in the USA (the European Union did this way back in 2012). 

So, with parabens being an easy way to prolong the shelf life of a product, many companies are continuing to ignore their health risks and are still using parabens in their formulas. 

Fortunately, Lavelier is different… 

All Lavelier products are paraben-free. The brand tries to use natural preservatives whenever possible, and, when synthetic alternatives do need to be used, they make sure that their choices are not detrimental to the skin in any way. 

My Lavelier Skin Care Routine

I now have a couple of shelves in my cosmetics cupboard jam-packed with Lavelier products, from various different collections. I use some of them interchangeably, but my go-to Lavelier skin care routine is as follows: 

• Biology Mousse Cleanser – an antioxidant-rich formula (featuring a long list of botanical extracts) that foams into a rich lather without drying out the skin – something that’s quite rare in a foaming cleanser
• Marine Facial Toner – I firmly believe that a toner is a must after cleansing, mostly for rebalancing the skin’s pH level, but also for adding in an extra dose of moisture. This one contains niacinamide, sodium hyaluronate and red coral seaweed, all three revered for their hydrating properties 
• Halophil Encapsulated Serum – these single-dose serum capsules are packed with a powerful blend of free radical-fighting antioxidants. The serum is silky and lightweight, and quickly absorbs into the skin without leaving a sticky feeling behind. The capsule-like packaging also helps to retain the potency of the serum’s active ingredients  
• Moisture Allure Cream – a hydrating moisturizer that I sometimes combine with the Magnetic MicroLift Mask to enhance its effects 

Wondering how long it took before I began to see results after first using Lavelier’s products? 

To be completely honest, it varied quite a bit. 

Some products had an immediate effect, such as the HydroTherm Age Defying Syringe, although I only use this one before a special occasion. 

Others, such as the serums and moisturizers, took about six to eight weeks to really make a noticeable difference, but this is to be expected. It usually takes the skin just under two months to build new collagen and elastin fibers, with these being the proteins that keep it looking firm, smooth and tight. Many of the ingredients that Lavelier uses in their products are designed to stimulate collagen and elastin production from within, so although you need to wait a little longer to see the results, the improvements will stick around for the long term. 

Lavelier is a brand focused on innovation, and so I truly cannot wait to see the future products that they end up creating. The way in which their products have managed to take care of all of my skin’s needs has made me a devoted customer, and I can easily see myself using Lavelier products as I continue on through life. 

Well, all of this talk of Lavelier has strangely given me face mask cravings, so I’m now off to treat my skin to its monthly dose of the incredibly indulgent Coral Luminous Masque – another product I would highly recommend for people seeking an instant glow!
